Family Fun at Liverpool’s Indoor Funfair: A Night of Thrills and Laughter!

What to Expect: All the Fun, None of the Rain

If you are looking for the perfect way to burn off some energy and keep the kids entertained over the Easter school holidays, regardless of the unpredictable British weather, the Indoor Funfair at Liverpool’s Exhibition Centre is a must visit.  As a family from Warrington always on the lookout for affordable, local adventures, we recently took the boys (and their varying levels of bravery!) to see if it lived up to the hype and its safe to say that the boys (and us adults) had a blast!

From heart-pumping rides and delicious fairground treats to our exclusive discounts, here is everything you need to know about our visit.

What is Liverpool’s Indoor Funfair?

Located right on the iconic Liverpool Waterfront next to the M&S Bank Arena, the Indoor Funfair takes over the massive Exhibition Centre several times a year (usually during school holidays).  The beauty of this setup is simple, climate control.  No shivering in a muddy field or clutching a soggy candyfloss.  It’s all the thrill of a traditional fairground packed into a clean, dry, and safe indoor space.

Beating the Rush: Easy Parking & Early Entry

We chose the evening session, which offers unlimited rides from 6pm to 9pm.  To beat any potential rush, we arrived around 30 minutes early, which gave us plenty of time to get settled.  If you’re driving, the multi-storey car park right next to the Exhibition Centre makes life incredibly easy.  It’s only a short walk to the entrance. perfect for when you have excited kids who are ready to get straight to the action!

When we arrived, there was absolutely no queue.  We were scanned in, given wristbands and headed straight into the arena.  While the rides don't officially start until the timeslot begins (6pm in our case), getting there early gave us the perfect opportunity to get our bearings, see the rides all lit up, and see which ride to hit first.

While we love traveling as a family, sometimes we have to pivot our plans based on how everyone is feeling. Because Mark struggles with severe motion sickness (another downside of living with MS) and cannot cope with spinning, he decided to sit this one out and Uncle Chris was on hand to jump in as the designated thrill-seeker!

The Rides: From Tots to Teens

What makes this a great spot for our family is that it actually caters to the age gap between our boys, there's over 30 rides and attractions spread across the massive arena and something for every age group.

There are lots of smaller rides and attractions for the little ones including, carousel, inflatable sides and funhouses and then also rides for older children and adults to enjoy.  The evening slot was quieter than others throughout the day which meant that we managed to go from one ride to another with zero queuing (obviously this can't be guaranteed for other days).

Our Top 3 Must-Ride Attractions:

  1. The Ski Jump: A fast-paced favourite that had everyone cheering.

  2. The Twister: A classic for a reason! It’s just the right amount of dizzying fun.

  3. The Waltzers: This was the undisputed winner of the night.  We spun non-stop and couldn't stop laughing.

We took the boys on the Waltzers, which provided the highlight of our trip. While Louie was laughing his head off and demanding more speed, our teenager was leaning into the "dramatic exit" vibe, turns out, the spinning isn't for everyone!  You can see exactly how much we spun (and how much we laughed!) in our latest video over on our socials!

Cooke's Top Tip: Check online for height restrictions in advance, most big rides require kids to be over 1.2m.  Check the signs before joining a queue to avoid any "pre-ride" heartbreak.

Food and Treats

You can’t go to the fair without treating yourself.  There are several stands dotted around the arena offering all the fairground staples.  For our main bites, we tried the chicken wrap and the cheesy chips with gravy, proper comfort food!

Of course, we couldn't leave without a sweet treat.  Just before we headed home, we grabbed some freshly made donuts with Kinder Bueno toppings.  They were absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the night.

Other treats available included:

  • Hot Churros

  • Fluffy Candyfloss

  • Slushies and Soft Drinks
