There are stadium gigs, and then there are nights that etch themselves into your memories forever. Seeing the Foo Fighters at Anfield on Thursday 25th June 2026, the absolute hottest day of the year was exactly that.
As massive Liverpool FC fans, walking into the iconic Anfield stadium to see one of our all-time favourite bands was already a proper bucket list moment. But sharing it with our son, Charlie, made it unforgettable. Charlie is no stranger to live music, we’ve taken him to the Neighbourhood Weekender festival every year since it started on our local park, so he's seen loads of artists and band live, but this was his very first massive stadium gig. And what a way to start!
Here is our review of the night, packed with everything from parking tips to on stage surprises.
Getting to Anfield: Parking, Pitstops, and Merch Savvy
We headed into Liverpool straight after school had finished to beat the heaviest of the crowds and arrived at around 4pm .
Parking Tips for Anfield Gigs
We managed to park about a mile away from the stadium on Cherry Lane. It cost us £20 for the evening, which we thought wasn't too bad considering the next car park just a little further along the road was charging £30!
Pre-Gig Fuel
You can't go to a gig in Liverpool and not hit a local chippy. We grabbed a classic northern feast, chips, fried rice, and curry sauce, and headed into Stanley Park to eat it in the sunshine before heading to the turnstiles.
Inside Merch vs. Street Merch
Before heading in, we hit the official merch stand to get Charlie a t-shirt. It was £35, which is pretty standard for a major stadium tour these days. However, after the gig, guys on the street were selling the exact same t-shirts for £15. I bought one of these for myself, and honestly, you cannot tell the difference!
Entering the Kop and Surviving the Heatwave
Our tickets were for seats in the legendary Anfield Kop, so we headed over to Gate E. There was absolutely no queue, and we walked straight through and up to row 57.
The heat inside the stadium was intense and it felt significantly hotter than it did outside on what was already the hottest day of the year. The first support act was already playing, but they weren't really our cup of tea, so we headed back down to the concourse. It was much cooler down there, making it the perfect spot to sit, relax, and brace ourselves for the main event.
Inhaler Live at Anfield: A Surprise Connection
Next up was Inhaler. I’d heard them a few times on Radio X, but Mark and Charlie didn't know any of their songs.
As soon as they started playing, we all immediately noticed that the lead singer had a distinct, familiar twang to his voice that sounded similar to Bono from U2!" It was only after the gig that we found out that the frontman is indeed Bono’s son! They were absolutely brilliant live, and we've definitely added them to our playlists since getting home.
Foo Fighters Live at Anfield: Pure Rock 'n' Roll Magic
At around 7.15pm red smoke started to appear from the stage. Anfield erupted. It was time for the Foo Fighters.
From the second that Dave Grohl and the band stepped onto the stage until the final chord echoed out, they were on fire. The entire stadium roared as the crowd screamed their hearts out to massive anthems like The Pretender and Learn to Fly.
Out of all the gigs I’ve ever been to, this one felt like they played a much longer set than most, packing in way more songs than usual, but when you have a catalogue of over 180 songs to choose from, you’ve got plenty of material to work with!
Foo Fighters Anfield Prank: The Story Behind the Rubik's Cube Drummer
One of the highlights of the night came when Dave Grohl stopped the show. The big screens panned to a young lad in the crowd holding up a sign that read: "If I can solve this Rubik's Cube, can I play a song?"
Dave Grohl invited him up onto the stage, and with the entire stadium cheering him on, the lad managed to solve it! He was then asked what instrument he wanted to play, and the guy pointed straight at the drum kit. He then sat down and performed Rope flawlessly with the band.
As we watched him play, we whispered to each other, "He’s actually way too good... something is going on here!" Sure enough, at the end of the track, Dave Grohl burst out laughing and confessed it was a total wind-up. The "stranger" was actually his daughter's boyfriend, and they had planned this so that he could perform with Foo Fighters to celebrate his 18th birthday! The entire stadium then erupted into a massive rendition of Happy Birthday. It was a brilliant, heartwarming moment.
My Only Criticism: The Water and Bar Queues
While the music was flawless, the venue organisation left a bit to be desired regarding the extreme weather.
Because of the major heatwave, we had received an email the day before stating that we could bring in a sealed 500ml bottle of water and refill it for free inside. However, there were no water fountains to be found on the concourse.
While the bar staff were happy to refill bottles, the queues were a nightmare. Before the Foo Fighters came on, we queued for over 45 minutes just to get water. The massive holdup was because people were ordering food at the same counters. In that kind of extreme heat, venues like really need dedicated water refill stations.
The Encore and an Unforgettable Finale
As the night drew to a close, the band played Best of You and then disappeared off the stage as the lights went dim. As that happened, hordes of people started heading for the exits as soon as the song finished which had us a little baffled as surely everyone knows that there is always an encore?
Shortly after, the Foo Fighters walked back out onto the Anfield stage and they treated those of us who stayed to a phenomenal three-song encore: The Teacher, Exhausted and my absolute favourite, Everlong. Singing our hearts out to it with Charlie and Mark under the Liverpool sky will be a memory that I treasure.
Leaving the stadium turned out to be quick and easy. It was a short walk back to the car on Cherry Lane, and we were soon on our way home—voices going, with the songs still ringing in our ears, and holding onto memories that we will treasure forever.
The Foo Fighters were even better than I could have ever imagined live. If they are on your bucket list, book the tickets. You won't regret it.
