Tropical Vibes at Alton Towers: Our Family Review of Splash Landings Waterpark

Published on 17 April 2026 at 18:13

If you are looking for a tropical escape in the heart of Staffordshire, Splash Landings Waterpark at the Alton Towers Resort is often at the top of the list.  We recently took the boys for our very first visit to see if this Caribbean-themed indoor water world lives up to the hype.

From the master blasters to the lazy rivers, here is everything you need to know about the entry costs, the slides, and a few essential tips to make your visit go smoothly.

Arrival and Entry Costs

We pre-booked the Splash Landings Waterpark and paid £96 for a family of four (two adults and two children), however i realised that i should have waited until my annual pass had come through and then booked which would have saved us over 30% off the ticket price.  When we arrived ahead of our timeslot the staff informed us that because the park wasn't too busy, we weren't restricted to a specific time window and we were welcome to stay anytime up to 5pm if we wanted! This meant that we didn't need to rush or worry about fitting everything in.

The Changing Rooms

The waterpark is located on the ground floor of the Splash Landings Hotel. Once we had been scanned through the barrier we headed into the large family changing area, there are lots of different sized cubicles suitable for families, couples or single people.

Cooke's Top Tip: The lockers are a bit old school and require a 20p coin. In an age of contactless payments, hardly anyone carries loose change! We got lucky and found a 20p left in an open locker, but definitely make sure you pack some coins before you head down.

Before hitting the pools, we headed to the showers.  Be prepared to test a few, we found most of them to be freezing cold, though we eventually tracked down a couple of warm ones to get rinsed off.

Exploring the Pools and Slides

Lagoona Bay & Wacky Waterworks

We started our adventure at Lagoona Bay, a large lagoon style pool with a maximum depth of 1.4m.  This area is also where the Wacky Waterworks treehouse starts, which is packed with water cannons and pull-ropes.

Despite a brief pause for a random nosebleed (Louie was a trooper and desperate to get back in!), the boys loved the interactive elements here, especially the massive tipping bucket that soaks everyone in sight.

Flash Floods Outdoor Pools

Even if it's a typical British day, do not skip the outdoor section!  Flash Floods consists of three tiered pools with slides connecting them. Because the water is kept very warm, it felt amazing even in the fresh air.  We spent ages racing each other down the slides to see who could hit the bottom pool first.

The Big Slides: Master Blaster & Rush 'n' Rampage

One of the best things about Splash Landings is the accessibility for younger thrill-seekers. Both the Master Blaster and Rush 'n' Rampage have a height requirement of 1.2m so ur 6 year old Louie was able to join us and enjoy the slides.

  • Rush 'n' Rampage: Louie particularly loved the left-hand slide, which features a dark tunnel, which was illuminated with bright lights.

  • Master Blaster: This is the park's water coaster. It’s fast, fun, and it might leave you spinning backward for most of the ride.  Mark found this hilarious as he watched me ride ahead of him.

Calypso Creek (The Lazy River)

If you’re looking for a relaxing float, Calypso Creek is the place to be.  Of course, relaxing, is a relative term when you're traveling with two energetic boys, but it’s a great way to drift around and take in the atmosphere.

Final Thoughts

By mid afternoon, our fingers were wrinkled, the chlorine was starting to tingle my eyes, and we were ready for a rest so we headed back upstairs to check into the hotel.

Our Highlights:

  • The Outdoor Pools: Surprisingly warm and great fun.

  • Height Requirements: Very fair for younger children who want to do the "big" slides.

  • The Atmosphere: Great Caribbean vibes that make you forget you're in the UK.

If you’re planning a trip to Alton Towers, Splash Landings is a fantastic add-on to a mini break or a standalone day trip.  Just remember that 20p piece!
