Our First HelloFresh Dinner: Oven Baked Basa in Tarragon Garlic Butter

Published on 18 August 2026 at 23:04

After announcing our exciting new partnership as HelloFresh brand ambassadors, the moment we had all been waiting for finally arrived: cooking our very first meal!

If you’ve been following our journey, you’ll know that our evenings are usually a whirlwind of school runs and sports training.  Tonight was a prime example.  Charlie was playing in the tri-series rugby matches representing Warrington, which made for an action packed evening.  To top it all off, we faced a massive detour home due to some truly ridiculous road closures!  By the time we finally walked through the front door at 8:30pm with the rugby playing on TV, the last thing I wanted to do was start cooking from scratch.

However, I remained fully committed.  During halftime, I headed off to the kitchen to tackle tea, and let me tell you, this is where HelloFresh completely saved the evening.

Stress Free Cooking

When you’re exhausted and pressed for time, standard meal prep can feel like a mountain to climb.  But with HelloFresh, all of the ingredients are perfectly weighed out and ready to go.  I didn’t have to waste a single second chopping endless vegetables or measuring out sauces,  all I needed to do was follow the simple, step-by-step instructions on the recipe card.

I did make one tiny tweak to the routine: I decided to cook the chips in the air fryer rather than the oven so that it would be much quicker, and it worked an absolute treat!

Our Verdict: Oven-Baked Basa in Tarragon Garlic Butter

Here's our HelloFresh review.  On the menu tonight was the Oven-Baked Basa in Tarragon Garlic Butter, served alongside chips and fresh vegetables.

To be completely honest, we had a few ingredients in this dish that none of us had ever tried before, including samphire.  Trying new foods with kids can sometimes be a bit of a gamble, but it totally paid off.

The whole family absolutely loved the meal, completely clearing their plates down to the last crumb!  The fish was flaky, the tarragon garlic butter added a gorgeous, rich depth of flavour, and the whole dish was packed with so many incredible flavours that it was well worth the late night wait.  It just proved that even on the most chaotic sports nights, you can still get a fresh, restaurant quality meal on the table with zero hassle.

If this is what our first meal tastes like, we cannot wait for the rest of the week's dinners!
